| Customer Reviews: Nice, convenient and powerful receiver August 29, 2010 Victor Rodriguez (Miami, FL, USA) Recently I was looking for a new CD receiver for my car costing less than $150. After researching and comparing, I was ready to hit the "Add To Cart" button for the Sony CDX-GT700HD. I like all its features, including HD Radio, front USB, front Aux input, Subwoofer output, WMA/MP3/AAC formats on memory and CDs, iPod control, 52 watts x 4 and, of course, its price.
Suddenly, I realized that I needed it to play DVDs, and this is when further research took me to this player: Boss BV7340 In-Dash 3.2" DVD/MP3/CD Touchpanel Widescreen Receiver with USB. It does everything the Sony does, except for the HD Radio part. And thinking it twice... I could easily exchange this feature with the DVD playback and 3.2" display options in the BV7340. Add also a nice flat design, a rear camera input, SD card reader, external a/v input, pre-amp output for all channels including subwoofer, 80 watts x 4 power, a bit lower price than the Sony!!! And then I finally hit the ATC button.
When I got it home, curiosity avoided me to wait for the installation process and I jumped to test it in my home theater using an external 12v battery, my two front Athena Audition AS-F2 full range speakers, and my Energy S12.3 300w powered subwoofer (all 8 Ohm). I played the Austin Powers "Goldmember" DVD and the sound was great! The receiver alone moved the trio with applomb to loud enough levels and robust bass. I then added another couple of AS-F2s as rear and this receiver rocked! The screen also looks nice with balanced colors. I bypassed the "Engage the Parking Break" message by connecting the pink cable always to ground with the black one. (I sure won't do that on the car).
Perhaps my only complains should be the slow speed when reading any media, and the loss of the first second when you skip to next song (I'll reaserch on how to avoid this behavior). But this Boss is so feature rich that I will recommend it in full.
good product September 6, 2010 zerkas good product, great sound and it looks great in the car. everything positive with this car stereo. the only downfall is that is kind of hard to take out the front panel when your leaving your car parked. overall a really great product
not that bad August 18, 2010 Jason 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
just recieved this product yesterday got it professionally installed today for 50 bucks due to my wires are all messed up with no harness on the factory wiring and prev owner just connected the speaker wires any odd place thus confusing me. Shop had a tester for that which i didnt have made the installation a breeze. The unit does look cheap compared to my pioneer avic d3 in my other car but im not wilingl to spend that much on my beater car. Its a 20 year old car so the graphics on this matches the car itself looks like the old nintendo graphics looks cool on this car but not on a modern car. The cap for the usb looks flimsy and the 3.2 inch screen is small. The quality of the screan is good and of high quality, the sound is also improved and has a better base then my 15yo kenwood it replaced. But for 150bucks installed that is pretty good. The boss speakers and this HU all cost me about 175 bucks and thats with installation so if your looking for the cheapest of cheap then this is probably your best bet. Hopefully it will last for at least a few years. If looking for better quality i would suggest buying the clarion 3.5in dvd HU much better quality and a little bit bigger for 120 bucks more but for me im broke!!!
Pros-easy install, wires are higher quality then power acoustiks, it worked compared to the Power Acoustiks Ptid 3200!!!, reception and sound quality improved on my old car, buttons are touch sensitive which makes it cool, 8 bit graphics are a nice touch on an old car, DVD are high quality, SD card and USB card reader and aux input, PRICE!!!
Cons-casing looks cheap compared to Power acoustiks but that didnt work, Face plate also looks cheap but works , menu can be a bit complicating at first esp trying to save your radio presets, 8 bit graphics are ugly on a new modern day car, CD loads are long about 8 sec are changing tracks are long too.
improvements-bigger screen maybe 4inch, better built quality, faster load times would be great. but adding all this would prob make it cost more too!!!
